Kiran Bedi gained national and international fame for her courage and dedication as an IPS officer. She is known for her tough stance on corruption, commitment to law enforcement, and the significant reforms she introduced in India’s largest prison, Tihar Jail. Her emphasis on education, vocational training, and the mental well-being of prisoners was transformative.

The first woman to join the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1972. Known for her reforms in Tihar Jail, introducing education and spiritual programs for inmates. Awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1994 for her pioneering work in government service. Served as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Founded two NGOs: Navjyoti India Foundation and India Vision Foundation

Kiran Bedi has written several books, including I Dare!: The Autobiography of Kiran Bedie, It’s Always Possible: Transforming one of the largest prisons in the world, and As I See: ACompilation of her opinions on various contemporary issues.

As Inspector General of Prisons, Bedi implemented drastic reforms in Tihar Jail, introducing education, meditation (Vipassana), yoga, and vocational training for inmates. Her reforms helped rehabilitate prisoners and made Tihar a model prison.
