About the Book

It is the greatest challenge for any writer to write history of a tragedy in an interesting way and to maintain the essence of reality in it. But this challenge becomes much bigger when it is written keeping in mind every section, every class of readers. This challenging work is done by Kr. Rajiv Ranjan Singh. He should be applauded for that. While reading Kr. Rajiv Ranjan Singh’s book Those 17 Days it never felt that we are reading a tragedy, rather it felt as if we are witnessing that event and everything is unfolding in front of our eyes in the form of a documentary film. Trapped for 17 days in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand, the refugees have seen death up close every single day. There was a never-ending darkness in front of their eyes, but at the same time there was an invisible light of their hope, that was assuring them that one day they would meet their close ones.
